Harvey Performance Company Announces Partnership With Mastercam

ROWLEY, MA (November 30, 2018) – Harvey Performance Company is proud to announce a new partnership with CNC Software Inc., the developers of Mastercam software. Mastercam is a CAD/CAM software for 2-through-5-axis routing, milling and turning, 2-and-4-axis wire EDM, 2D and 3D design, surface and solid modeling, and Swiss machining

This new partnership between Harvey Performance Company’s leading cutting tool brands, Harvey Tool and Helical Solutions, and Mastercam will allow both companies to work together to share ideas that shape the future of manufacturing from both a tooling and CAM perspective. A great example of this collaboration is the new Deburring toolpath available in Mastercam 2019. Harvey Tool has many deburring tools which have been used in various tests of this new toolpath. These opportunities have given the Harvey Performance Company team additional insight into the performance of the tooling and allowed the Mastercam team to optimize this new toolpath for their users.

“I think the major benefit from both partners is bringing CAM software and cutting tool innovation closer together to generate a better user experience from the moment you start programming until the time you hit the Cycle Start button and start making chips,” says Jeff Rauseo, Senior Marketing Specialist – Strategic Partnerships & Applications, Harvey Performance Company.

Introducing Harvey Performance Company

Harvey Tool and Helical Solutions are now brought together under the umbrella of Harvey Performance Company, the brands’ new parent company.

Rowley, MA (May 8, 2017) – Harvey Performance Company, the parent company of the Harvey Tool and Helical Solutions brands, was launched today in an effort to streamline communications and better support its customers and business partners.

Harvey Tool Company is known for its highly specialized hard-to-find micro cutting tools. Helical Solutions has built a reputation for its high performance custom and standard end mills. Both brands now exist under the umbrella of Harvey Performance Company.

Like the two brands it represents, Harvey Performance Company will maintain a dedication to providing world class products, services, and solutions that increase productivity for customers in the manufacturing and metalworking industries. Additionally, it will continue on a proud history of doing business the right way with fast, friendly, knowledgeable customer service.

“The launch of Harvey Performance Company is a necessary step in the natural growth and evolution of our company,” said Peter Jenkins, Chief Executive Officer of Harvey Performance Company. “Our new parent company will enhance our ability to continue to provide our customers with stellar service, products, and commitment to building long-standing relationships.”

“Since Harvey Tool acquired Helical Solutions about a year and a half ago, we have worked hard to come together as one team while also maintaining each brands’ unique character and identity, established business relationships, and earned reputation,” said Garth Ely, Harvey Performance Company Vice President of Marketing. “We feel that the launch of Harvey Performance Company is another large step toward achieving this goal.”

Harvey Tool Voted #1 Top End Mill Brand

Rowley, MAHarvey Tool is proud to announce that for the second consecutive year, it has been voted #1 Most Popular End Mill Brand by participants of the 2016 CNC Cookbook End Mill Survey, a questionnaire meant to gauge machinists’ most preferred manufacturers.

Of the nearly 1,300 votes cast for more than 90 different end mill brands, Harvey Tool earned the top spot with 90.3 percent of voters listing the Rowley-based company as a top choice end mill manufacturer. Following behind were Niagara (whom Harvey Tool tied with for the top spot last year), OSG, Accupro, Garr, SGS, Kennametal, and Micro100.

While the survey focused on overall brand popularity, it also asked respondents to rank end mill brands based on the categories of “combined value and performance” and “highest performance.” Harvey Tool was named the top choice for both categories, tallying 7.9 percent of votes for highest performance and 6.8 percent for combined value and performance. Simply, participants voted Harvey Tool the first choice for tools if money was no factor, while also listing them as having the best balance of performance and value.

Helical Solutions, whom Harvey Tool acquired in 2015, also performed well in the CNC Cookbook End Mill Survey, ranking in the top position within the Tier 2 list of end mill brands. This marks the first year that Helical has been named and ranked in this annual survey.

“We’re extremely proud of this accomplishment as it works to affirm the hard work and commitment our team exhibits every day for our customers,” said Harvey Tool Vice President of Marketing Garth Ely. “The results of this survey clearly express that Harvey Tool is a top choice for machinists, and there’s no better feeling than that.”

“Each member of our team played a vital role in making this possible,” Ely said. “It’s truly a cross functional effort here, which makes an accomplishment of this magnitude so much greater.”

“For us, this is just another accomplishment in what has been a tremendous year of growth and achievement,” said Harvey Tool Senior Vice President of Sales Jerry Gleisner. “To see both Harvey Tool and Helical Solutions perform so well is only added motivation for us to continue to push for an even better product for our customers in 2017.”

Harvey Tool Company Earns Position in Inc. 5000

Rowley, MAHarvey Tool Company is proud to announce that it has earned a spot on the 2016 Inc. 5000, a very exclusive club of America’s fastest-growing 5,000 private companies. According to Inc.com, their list is a grouping of the 5,000 “superheroes of the U.S. economy.” This is the first time that Harvey Tool has earned a spot on this prestigious list. It now shares a pedigree with world renowned businesses Zappos, Under Armour, Go Pro and Timberland, among many others.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our entire team,” Harvey Tool President Peter Jenkins said. “For Harvey Tool Company to be recognized alongside some of America’s most successful, fastest-growing companies is truly a testament to the hard work each member of our organization puts forth on a daily basis.”

In addition to Harvey Tool, the 2016 Inc. 5000 includes companies such as Square, Dollar Shave Club, Yeti Cooler, as well as the Massachusetts-based Paint Nite and Globalization Partners.

According to Inc.com, “America’s fastest-growing private companies wield powers like strategy, service, and innovation. On this list you’ll find businesses that exercise the body and the mind, push the boundaries of virtual reality and 3-D printing, and delight fans with rock concerts and (in the case of the No. 1 company, LootCrate) superheroes.”

“This is an honor that has been earned over the course of several years,” Jenkins said. “By priding ourselves on consistently striving to be the best for our dedicated customer base, recognitions like this become possible.”

Helical Solutions Showcased in United Grind Magazine

Featured in United Grind Magazine’s 2016 IMTS issue, the Helical Solutions team takes you behind the scenes for the process of how a cutting tool is developed, from the origination of its design to the grinding process. Materials such as Inconel, Hastelloy, and Waspalloy are valuable to the Aerospace Industry due to their great strength and heat resistant properties. But these same properties also make it difficult to machine. At Helical, the tool design process takes into account a material’s specific properties, aiming to provide the customer with not only a cutting tool, but a cutting tool solution.

“A tool geometry might be designed with a helix that works on the vertical forces to prevent part deflection,” Harvey Performance Company Vice President of Engineering Jeff Davis said. “Or the toolmaker may put a specific hone on cutting edges to extend tool life and also refine the finish of the surface being machined, which can be critical where mating surfaces are involved.”

Helical Solutions Recognized for “Exceeding Expectations” in Boeing-Hosted 2015 Industry Challenge II

Rotherham, ENGLANDHelical Solutions Vice President of Sales Scott Tiehen, Engineering Manager James Graham and Northwest Sales Manager Rick Woods are proud to announce a top tier finish in the 2015 Boeing Industry Challenge II, a multi-month invitational tournament meant to gage the world’s strongest and highest-performing milling tools in 6AL4V, a material common to the aerospace industry and intended to yield higher metal removal rates in a repeatable manner.

“When we learned that we were invited by Boeing to participate in this thoughtful and rigorous challenge, we jumped at the opportunity,” Tiehen said. “Our team immediately began working hard to leverage proprietary geometry, coatings and expertise to develop the perfect tool.

“Our successes at the Industry Challenge worked only to affirm my unyielding belief that Helical tools, and the Helical team, are among the world’s best.”

Hosted by Boeing’s Portland, Ore. plant, one of the largest machine shops in the world, and held at University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, the Challenge was compartmented into two chapters: Traditional and High Velocity. Helical Solutions earned Exceeds Expectations recognition for the Traditional Finishing parameters.

Boeing outlined specific operating boundary conditions, as well as performance deliverables, to maintain an even test environment for all participants. Exact parameters have been omitted from this document in respect to Boeing’s confidential operations.

Decisions related to tool geometry, coating and coolant, however, were made by each participant. Helical opted to use proven tool geometry, but added a unique core strategy for increased strength, Graham said.

“We also opted to use a proprietary coating that we have developed in-house with our coating manufacturer, he said. “It works awesome in titanium.”

After allotted periods of machining time, edge wear on tools was recorded and critiqued. Three stages of test results are critiqued by Boeing when determining a tool manufacturer for upcoming projects.

Boeing has chosen to keep the peak performers of the final stage confidential, but said that Helical was in the “upper echelon of competition,” Woods said. Excelling earned Helical one of just a few spots in the third and final round of the competition.

“Everyone at Helical was constantly asking us if we made it to phase three,” Graham said. “When I received word, it was the biggest pleasure for me to let them know that we made it. We out-performed some of the biggest and best in the world, and that’s something we’re extremely proud of.”

Harvey Tool Acquires Helical Solutions

Rowley, Massachusetts – Harvey Tool Company, a leading provider of highly specialized hard-to-find micro cutting tools, has acquired Helical Solutions of Gorham, Maine, a leading manufacturer of high performance custom and standard end mills.

“We are very excited about the future of these two brands and are committed to growing manufacturing in Maine.” said Pete Jenkins CEO of Harvey Tool. “We decided to acquire Helical Solutions for many strategic reasons. Helical Solutions’ dedication to quality products, commitment to distribution, and strong service ethic are well known in the industry and very consistent with the Harvey Tool way of doing business. The addition of the Helical Brand, and its large diameter high performance focus, represents a strong compliment for the Harvey Tool Brand and its miniature end mill and specialty profile product focus.”

Harvey Tool and Helical Solutions serve customers throughout North America and provide value through not only breakthrough product performance but also via technical expertise. “Helical Solutions has a top notch reputation across the industry for a best in class solution-based approach to engaging with customers.” stated Marcus Ralston VP of Sales for Harvey Tool. “I’ve admired their professionalism for years.” A limited and select distributor model remains a defining go to market strategy for both brands.

The acquisition of Helical Solutions better positions both brands to compete and grow. “We’re all experiencing it, the industry continues to evolve and the pace of change is accelerating.” said Jenkins. “Size and scale matters in this industry, but that said, we plan on maintaining and growing both the Helical and the Harvey Tool brands indefinitely.”

Over the coming weeks and months, the focus will be on scaling and growing the two brands. “We will continue to manufacture Helical product in the Gorham facility, and we have plans for significant investment and growth.” said Sam Ward, COO of Harvey Tool. “The potential for future growth remains strong.”
